Our research revolves around the study of open quantum systems. Open quantum systems exchange energy, particles, or information with their environment. The study of open quantum systems is crucial for understanding a vast array of physical phenomena, especially in real-world scenarios where isolation from the environment is often impossible. Specifically, we work on two-dimensional photon gases in optical microresonators, which effectively give the light particles a mass. By controlling loss and (optical) gain, these quantum systems can be studied in regimes that are inaccessible in other quantum systems.
